Moron Moderators and Webmasters Waste Time on Spam
If you run a forum or classified-ad site, write informative, well-explained rules (with examples) and put them in plain site. Put the rules where we can see them. If you don't, then you are wasting your time cleaning up after accusing innocent surfers of spam when they thought they were actually doing OK.
If you have a "Buy, Trade, & Sell" sub-forum, and you don't want the members to post link-exchange requests or links to their own sites in that sub-forum, then say so in a sticky. Otherwise, sensible surfers will try to trade links and they will assume that they can go ahead and post links to their own pages where they sell and trade items.
Don't say "No spam" and leave it at that. The word spam has been thrown around way too much by lazy, illiterate webmasters and moderators, and the legal definition of spam is usually quite different from the myriad of uses the Web has chosen for it. Say something like "No links to your own sites anywhere in the forum, except in the Advertising and Link Trade sections" or "You may only place links to your own sites in your signature."
Start thinking about customer relations. Don't be a lazy moron. Most of the garbage you gladly allow into your forums is not worth reading anyway!
