Invision Power Board -> New Packages Free/Ad/Paid
Epilog, June 30, 2005: Thumbs down! And I mean it. This guy at hostingposts changed his rules so that if your account is inactive for more that one week, you are suspended (irrespective of the fact that you brought him traffic from search engines and forums). So forget about summer and getting a life: clean up your room and then stay in it with your computer . . . while you turn unreal in waste-your-time-land. (Besides that, the webmaster at hostingposts.com seems confused. Who can say?)
Like I said on http://freepgs.com/ledbetter/wordpress/?page_id=82, in an attempt to maximize web traffic and advertising revenue, a lot of guys clutter the search engines with forums that try to lull you into paying attention to 1000s of posts made by opportunists who have yet to prove or even present credentials. Quite a few web hosts and forum leaders and webmasters (everywhere) resort to bully tactics and level slanderous accusations at anyone who complains. [Perhaps the best way to avoid all the forum crud during a web search is to add the phrase -forum -forums to the search queries (i.e., to the search questions) you type into the Google, Yahoo, and MSN search boxes.]
Yep, and like I said on http://freepgs.com/ledbetter/wordpress/?p=31, there?s free hosts and there?s fringe hosts. The fringe hosts are free, too, but you?re left wondering about the owners/operators/hobbyists. Are they nosey pranksters and mean-spirited drunks? Are they the smallest of small-time political hacks? An unemployed snake-oil salesman would find it easy to set up a borderline Internet server next to the beer fridge.
I guess we have to give them the benefit of the doubt. I guess we have to hope they?re not phishing: I guess we have to hope they?re not scamming users into surrendering private information that will later be used for identity theft. I know quite a few wealthy men and women who would not even give a free or fringe or small-time Web host the email addresses they use to decoy (i.e., avoid) bulk spam, never mind names and phone numbers.

unlimited sql
Yesterday another free service -- http://www.hostingposts.com/ -- accepted my application for a free 100mb webspace account. Of course 100mb is not a huge pie -- you can only fit so many e-mail accounts and databases in there -- but this no-cost plan does give you cpanel pro, fantastico, unlimited email accounts, unlimited subdomains, unlimited sql, cgi, php, perl, 1-3gb in bandwidth, and more.
When I registered at the www.hostingposts.com forum and applied for a free-hosting account, I let them know that I'm reviewing ad-free, no-cost Web hosts. Approximately 24 hours later (maybe more, maybe less), they gave me a password and said they hope I enjoy their service.
